Spotify is being sued by a major music publisher for $1.6 billion

A major music publisher is seeking at least $1.6 billion from Spotify for copyright violations.

Spotify, the fast-growing streaming giant, somehow managed to post a plethora of music without any license nor compensation to the music publisher. Wixen Music Publishing which holds rights to songs of big artists including Neil Young, The Doors, and Black Keys, is suing Spotify with a list of 10 784 songs for which it’s questioning their permission to stream.

This lawsuit came ahead of Spotify’s plans to go public in 2018 when asked whether they think that the lawsuit could affect its IPO, Spotify declined to comment.
