The streaming service Spotify has teamed up with the world’s largest for-profit genealogy company Ancestry for an awesome new project, playlists based on our own DNA.
According to the new development, once you sign up through the genealogy company, you can trace your family history and compile those results to Spotify. So the two have basically come together to get us in touch with music that speaks to our culture and background.
Spotify users that want to use their genealogy to compile a playlist based off their DNA will have to sign up for ancestry’s DNA program for $99. If you already know your family tree though, you can use a manual tool to generate this playlist.
“It’s so much more than the stats and the data and the records,” says Vineet Mehra, Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer at Ancestry. “How do we help people experience their culture and not just read about it? Music seemed like an obvious way to do that.”
