Back in July, the 3rd edition of Love International took place in the picture-postcard village of Tisno.
Summer saw the event truly come into its own, which further refined the site with creative flourishes and delicate details, whilst also continuing to define the essence of a holiday and festival merged into one beatific week under the sun and stars.
Don’t forget the festival sold out back in April this year. Early bird tickets for 2019 go on sale to pre-registrations 9am Thurs 2nd Aug and Fri 3rd 9am to everyone else. Pre-register for tickets HERE.
Nestled away amid sprawling pine trees, rocky outcrops and crystal-clear Adriatic waters, 2500 music lovers and adventure seekers from all over Europe and beyond came together for a truly magical week. Keeping its vibrantly mixed audience together, from returning friends to brand-new faces taking it all in for the very first time, Love International wove together a genuine sense of community, kinship and connection which permeated across the guests, the artists, the site’s staff and everyone else all absorbed into the smile-inducing experience. A hint of magic, a sense of pure escapism and a coming together in unity created one of the Adriatic’s most edifying, dreamy and sublime odysseys.
Musically Love International expanded its remit even further, encouraging performers to experiment and the festival took in a dizzying array of sounds and styles, with stand-out sets left, right and centre across a scintillating spectrum. From Midland and Octo Octa’s back to back boat party to Paramida’s punchy house down on the beach, to Floating Points’ jazzy house handing over to Four Tet’s cerebral session on the Main Stage, back to Saoirse and Shanti Celeste’s joyful voyage which had every fist pumping, to the Sunrise Sessions with rare crate-dug dub and reggae ushering in the day. And of course don’t forget Barbarella’s, the fully open air club which is now regarded as one of the world’s best, which hosted sets from Young Marco back to back with Optimo and Hunee on an extended Saturday night disco journey, through to the annual Ben UFO and Craig Richards session and Bicep taking over too. Mesmeric moments took place each morning as dawn broke and light rose above the pines surrounding the revered venue.
For anyone wanting to relive some of the standout moments, check out these NTS mixes from the festival HERE. Sets are from Shanti Celeste, Ben UFO and Craig Richards, Daniele Baldelli, Khruangbin, Begin, Powder and Lexx.
The festival’s bold sense of ambition will continue to flourish for 2019, developing the philosophy to only bringing the world’s best DJs, producers, labels and collectives to Croatia, rather than the more obvious biggest. The first round of artists will be revealed in the autumn.
Tom Paine, one of the festival’s co-founders, explains: “This summer really was special for the festival, and we were all quite simply bowled over by it all from start to finish. For us it has always been about creating a real community, a destination for people to come together at and feel free. The music and the artists, the site, Tisno, Croatia and its people, our staff and most importantly everyone who comes to Love International – this year really was truly special because everything came together in such a magical way. We want to say a huge and heartfelt thank you to everyone who made the incredible week what it was.”
