Music connects people and brings them together. This is why it can be used for raising awareness around important social issues and presenting alternative solutions. Jonny White from Art Department has partnered with Pulse’s Wade Cawood and Jack Baucher from Tears For Tigers and together they have created a non-profit organization named Music Against Animal Cruelty that fights for wildlife preservation.
It all started at The International Music Summit in Ibiza, where they have hosted a panel about saving wildlife with the help of music. They informed the public about shocking statistics of animal endangerment and decided to organize an event with music workshops and seminars, which will be held at The Alchemist Bar in Nairobi, Kenya.
The event that is going to start on 1st July will connect different artists, for example, Art Department and The Legend, with Kenyan locals. All the proceeds from the event will go to The Lions Guardians Foundation.
The protection of lions is important because they are one of the most endangered species. In just 10 years their number has decreased from 50,000 to 15,000. Johnny hopes that informing the public about current issues will help create a new attitude towards wild animal species.
As he stated when speaking with International Business Times UK the main reason for the extinction of wild animal species is human greed:
“The numbers are really aggressive, it catches you off guard if you’re not really aware. I feel really sympathetic to their situation because really, at the hands of human greed, for the most part, populations are diminishing to the point of extinction and the numbers don’t really tell the whole story.”
