K.I. & S.A.

We met with Mike Williams after his gig at Mysteryland.

HOW DID IT ALL STARTED FOR YOU?

It started when I was 14 years old, at that age I started with producing in my bedroom. I didn’t have much and it was all really small. Later on I released some bootlegs online and was playing some small giggs. The bootlegs got some attention and I eventually got signed at ‘Spinnin’. That was, I guess, one of the most importnant events in my life. With Spinnin’ on my side I got opportunity to release my first track ”Sweet and sour”. Another great thing that happened was that I got to meet Tiesto during Amsterdam Dance Event and collaborated with him.

YOU COLLABORATED WITH TIESTO. WHAT DOES A BEGINNER NEED TO HAVE TO COLLAB WITH A BIG NAME LIKE THAT?

It’s diffucult to answer that question. I luckily met Tiesto at an event and he said he liked my tracks. So it is important for other producers to just put your stuff online. Make sure you are heard. After that it is just a matter of music and networking. I belive everyone should do what they truly love.

WHO WAS THE BIGGEST INSPIRATION FOR YOU?

Well, there are a lot of great producers out there. When I was young I started playing with Martin Garrix as well. We are friends for a long time now and we did some shows back in the days in our hometown. Martin became really big, so I would say he has been kind of an inspiration for me. Others who I look up to are Tiesto and Avicii. When I was younger  I also played piano, so that explains why I am into Avicii’s work – he had some piano tracks tho.

IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE SOME ”BIG NAME” FRIENDS TO SUCCEED?

It is, but eventually you have to do it all by yourself because they have their own career. It is true that they can help you and five you some important advices, but mostly it is up to you what you are going to get out of your knowledge. I succeed because of my hard determination and will, nothing comes by just like that.

WHAT SINGLE NIGHT OUT HAS BEEN THE MOST MEMORABLE FOR YOU?

I think that EDC Las Vegas was an awesome night for me. I opened the main stage there and that was one of the most amazing experiences ever.  Another reason that night was a blast for me is because I did it all on my own. At a lot of large events I am always on a stage with some great names like for example Tiesto. I played with him at Ultra which was also amazing, but EDC was all mine that night.

AT ADE YOU WILL BE A GUEST AT TIESTO’S 6 HOURS SET. ARE YOU GOING TO PLAY YOUR OWN SET?

True that. He is playing his set for 6 hours and I am super excited and proud to be a part of this event. I will also play a set completely on my own.

WHAT IS ONE SUBGENRE YOU THINK DOESN’T GET THE ATTENTION IT DESERVES?

There is a music style coming up which is between house and urban/hiphop music. It is not like Major Lazer stuff because that becomes really big. It is difficult to explain what I mean, but that ‘s why is so unknown I guess. In my opinion there are a lot of music styles who aren’t that popular, but a lot of dj’s are playing them anyway. They should just keep on playing and doing their own thing because music does not have to be popular to be good.

YOU POSTED ABOUT POKEMON GO ON YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA. May I ASK YOU ON WHAT LEVEL YOU ARE?

Haha, I played it sometimes. But I eventually deleted the app because it was taking too much precious time for me. I have some cool festivals coming up and I need to prepare for them too.

WHAT WILL YOU BE BUSY WITH DURING THE NEXT MONTHS?

I have few events coming up and I will do a small tour in Asia –  China and Tai Pei. So I really gotta say again that I don’t have time for games like Pokemon, Go haha!

Thank you a lot and good luck with your career!
