This should come as no big surprise, despite showing up to the party late, Apple Music seems to be winning some key battles in the streaming music wars.
More and more people are rocking out to Apple Music instead of Spotify. The Wall Street Journal dared to predict that if Apple Music continues to grow at its current rate, it will overtake Spotify as the most popular music streaming service in the world by this summer. In the US alone, Apple Music is growing at a monthly rate of 5%, which significantly outstrips Spotify’s 2% growth rate.
But if measuring global subscribers, Spotify happens to be near twice as large to Apple Music. Spotify reportedly had more than 70 million subscribers at the end of last month, while Apple it had only 36 million. The news also isn’t that likely to thrill Spotify as it is currently prepping for their huge step- to go public this spring.
